Nachdem wir euch bereits die erste Dragon Ball Z-Filmbox von Kazé vorgestellt haben, folgt nun ein Einblick in die zweite der insgesamt drei Boxen. Unter anderem tauchen hier mit Cooler und Broly zwei der legendärsten Gegenspieler unseres Helden Son-Goku auf.
Rache für Freezer
Der Tyrann Freezer ist besiegt. Doch selbst die schlimmsten Geschöpfe des Universums haben Familienmitglieder. So verwundert es nicht, dass Freezers Bruder Cooler kein bisschen netter ist und nach dem Tod Freezers nur eines im Kopf hat: Rache. Also sendet er seine drei Untertanen Salza, Neizu und Doore auf die Erde um Son-Goku ausfindig zu machen. Was folgt sind rund 30 Minuten der besten Actionszenen und der feinsten Animationen, die Dragon Ball Z zur damaligen Zeit zu bieten hatte.
Die Umgebung zerbröckelt regelrecht bei jedem Angriff. Die Zeichnungen sind unglaublich detailliert und fein und die Farbgebung ist im Vergleich zur TV-Serie auf einem völlig anderem Niveau. Vor allem das Schlussgefecht gegen Cooler selbst, der im Gegensatz zu Freezer sogar eine 5. Form beherrschte, hätte nicht actiongeladener sein können. Gleichzeitig läutet Rache für Freezer auch die völlige Lösung von der offiziellen Geschichte des Manga ein, weshalb Fans die Filme mit Zwiespalt betrachten.
Zwar bestätigte Toriyama, dass auch die ersten vier Filme nicht Teil der offiziellen Geschichte sind, doch konnte man diese wenigstens noch mit einem zugedrückten Auge in die Geschehnisse einordnen. Rache für Freezer passt jedoch zu keinem Zeitpunkt in das Gefüge der „Dragon Ball Z-Timeline“. Setzt man direkt an das Ende der Freezer-Saga an, hätte Son-Goku nicht auf der Erde sein dürfen. Setzt man danach an hätte Future Trunks sich bereits auf der Erde befinden sollen und Son-Gohan müsste älter sein.
Die Gesamtlänge von 47 Minuten (Für japanische Anime-Filme leider oftmals Standard) ist aus heutiger Sicht leider ebenfalls enttäuschend. Dennoch gehört Rache für Freezer inhaltlich und optisch zu den besten Ablegern der Reihe und läutet den Beginn der mit Abstand besten Dragon Ball Z-Filme ein.
Coolers Rückkehr
Ein Gegner wie Cooler lässt eine Niederlage natürlich nicht auf sich sitzen. Und so kommt es, dass Freezers nicht weniger tyrannischer Bruder im nächsten Film direkt sein Comeback feiert. In der Form von Metal Cooler will er diesmal zusammen mit einer finsteren KI namens Ghetti-Stern nicht nur den neuen Planeten der Namekianer auslöschen, sondern auch Son-Goku ein für alle Mal ins Jenseits schicken.
Visuell haben Toei nach dem bereits grandiosen Rache für Freezer das Niveau nochmals erhöht und präsentieren vor allem Lichteffekte, die für die damalige Zeit Maßstäbe setzten. Im Kampf gegen Metal Cooler zieht Son-Goku erneut alle Register und Fans dürfen sich an einer kurzen Kaioken und natürlich an erbarmungsloser Super-Saiyajin-Action erfreuen.
Tatsächlich hat er gegen den ebenfalls erstärkten Cooler dennoch keine Chance, bis Vegeta mit seiner damals typisch arroganten und kalten Art auf der Bildfläche erscheint, um Son-Goku mehr oder weniger zu retten. Das darauf folgende Finale setzt die Messlatte nochmals höher. Denn Metal Cooler existiert in hundertfacher Form und kann durch den Ghetti-Stern immer wieder reproduziert werden.
Coolers Rückkehr ist inhaltlich wieder schwer einzuordnen. Anhand von Son-Gohans Alter und der Tatsache, dass Vegeta ebenfalls zum Super-Saiyajin werden kann, kann der Film frühestens zur Android-Saga spielen. Da der Übergang zwischen dem Auftauchen der Cyborgs bis zum Erscheinen von Cell fließend war, ist eine Einordnung in den offiziellen Lauf der Geschichte kaum möglich. Auch Coolers Rückkehr ist mit rund 46 Minuten viel zu kurz. Denn inhaltlich macht auch dieser Streifen wieder enorm viel Spaß – auch wenn wir persönlich Rache für Freezer etwas besser fanden.
Angriff der Cyborgs
Ein weiteres Comeback blieb Cooler vergönnt. Stattdessen bewegte man sich inhaltlich nun Richtung Androids-Saga und präsentierte in Angriff der Cyborgs mit C13, C14 und C15 zusätzliche Cyborgs.
Der Beginn des Filmes macht deutlich, dass diese nach dem Tod von Dr. Gero erschaffen wurden, aber noch vor dem Training unserer Helden im Raum von Geist und Zeit erscheinen. Visuell bleibt Angriff der Cyborgs grundsätzlich auf dem Niveau der beiden Cooler-Filme. Er erlaubt sich jedoch während seiner 47 Minuten Laufzeit leider einige grobe Schnitzer.
So gibt es einige Szenen, in denen Figuren sich seltsam vom Hintergrund abheben oder während dem Übergang der Szenen sehr detailarm wirken. Auch gibt es eine Szene in der C14 und C15 Son-Goku scannen und dieser dabei nahezu groteske Proportionen besitzt (Man achte in dieser Szene auf die Breite von Gokus rechten Arm).
Davon abgesehen bietet auch dieser Film wieder einige sehr coole Kampfszenen und zum ersten Mal auch Future Trunks in Aktion. Leider wird der Spannungsbogen trotz der kurzen Laufzeit hier künstlich enorm gestreckt. So kämpfen Trunks und Goku unverständlicherweise eine ganze Zeit lang als normaler Saiyajin und bekommen dabei ordentlich auf die Mütze. Vegeta selbst taucht erst ab der 25. Minute auf und letztendlich verwandeln sich unsere Helden dann in der 28. Minute zum Super-Saiyajin.
Ab der Verwandlung von C13 zu Super 13 fährt Toei dafür nochmals alle Geschütze auf und zeigt einige sehr beeindruckende Animationen. Besonders Son-Gokus Genkidama am Ende sei hier hervorzuheben. Der definitiv schwächste Teil der zweiten Box, dennoch bietet „Angriff der Cyborgs“ einige Highlights.

Der legendäre Super-Saiyajin
Kommen wir zum letzten Film der Box. In Der legendäre Super-Saiyajin erscheint Broly auf der Bildfläche, welcher wohl bis heute der beliebteste Gegenspieler Gokus ist. Zeitlich sortiert man den Film in die 10-tägige Pause zwischen der Ankündigung der Cell-Spiele und dem Start eben dieser ein. Doch Logikfehler gibt es natürlich auch hier jede Menge.
Da man vor allem Brolys Stärke nicht wirklich einordnen kann, stellen Fans ihn ungefähr auf eine Stufe mit Perfect Cell, einige sogar über Boo. Und manche ordnen ihn aufgrund seiner bisher nicht näher definierten Super-Saiyajin-Form noch weit darüber ein.
Mit 69 Minuten Laufzeit ist Der legendäre Super-Saiyajin tatsächlich auch der erste Dragon Ball Z-Film in wirklicher Spielfilmlänge. Dabei verzichtet er aber auf einen unnötig ausufernden Plot. Stattdessen werden gleich fünf actionreiche und ungewöhnlich brutale Schlachten der Z-Kämpfer gegen Broly geboten. Und ja, Broly wird in diesen Auseinandersetzungen als nahezu unbesiegbar dargestellt. Er vernichtet Goku, Gohan, Trunks, Vegeta und Piccolo regelrecht ohne große Mühe.
Am Ende gelingt es Goku nur durch die übertragenen Kräfte seiner Freunde, Broly fürs erste Kampfunfähig zu machen. Fürs erste? Ja, denn Broly kehrt noch in zwei weiteren Filmen als Antagonist der Z-Kämpfer zurück. Wie genau man Broly einordnen kann oder soll, können auch wir nicht sagen. Fakt ist jedoch, dass Der legendäre Super-Saiyajin zu den besten, actionreichsten und unterhaltsamsten Filmen der Reihe gehört. Auch visuell sind vor allem die vielen KI-Attacken Brolys, sowie die vielen Details der Umgebung nochmals ein deutlicher Fortschritt gegenüber den anderen Filmen.
Kazés Veröffentlichungspolitik – Fluch & Segen für die Fans
Nachdem die originalen Veröffentlichungen von Polyband nicht mehr erhältlich sind, war es natürlich eine erfreuliche Nachricht als Kazé sich die Rechte für Dragon Ball Z sichern konnte. Die veröffentlichten Film-Boxen sind perfekt für jeden, der die Streifen noch nicht in seiner Sammlung hat und überzeugen auch optisch im edlen Pappschuber. Setzt man sich jedoch näher mit dem Produkt auseinander, bleiben auch Enttäuschungen nicht aus. So fehlt leider erneut sämtliches Bonus-Material, welches damals auf den Polyband-DVDs enthalten war. Auch liegt der Ton nicht mehr in 5.1 vor, sondern nur noch in 2.0.
Das schlimmste ist jedoch, gerade bei der großartigen visuellen Umsetzung dieser Klassiker, dass das Bild nur in 4:3 ausgeliefert wurde. Weder wurde hier das großartige 16:9 Master berücksichtigt, noch die Tatsache, dass der Großteil der Filme inzwischen sogar als HD-Remaster auf Bluray vorliegt – Nur in Deutschland eben noch nicht. Dragon Ball Z Movies 5-8 – Unser Fazit
Inhaltlich ist diese die stärkste der drei Boxen. Die beiden Nachfolger der Broly-Trilogie, welche in Box 3 enthalten sind, können leider nicht an Der legendäre Super-Saiyajin anknüpfen und auch die Cooler-Filme sind unerreicht stark.
Ihr werdet es während des Reviews bereits gemerkt haben, das wir des Öfteren die sogenannte „Timeline“ der Dragon Ball Z-Saga angesprochen haben, sowie die Tatsache, dass die Filme sich dort kaum bis gar nicht einsortieren lassen. Inzwischen ist es so, dass Toei im neuesten Videospiel Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 mehr oder weniger Stellung dazu genommen haben.
Da Cooler, Broly und Co. eine große Rolle in Xenoverse 2 spielen, wird hier natürlich auch darauf eingegangen, woher diese Figuren denn stammen. Die simple Antwort lautet: Parallelwelten. Denn genau wie die Welt aus der Future Trunks stammt, nicht mehr mit der aktuellen Zeitlinie übereinstimmt, stammen nun auch die Handlungen der Filme aus parallelen Zeitlinien, die so nicht in der Ur-Geschichte des Dragon Ball-Manga vorkamen. So schnell wird ein Shōnen-Manga zur Raketenwissenschaft.
Doch man kann die Dragon Ball-Science auch einfach ignorieren und die vielen verschiedenen Geschichten genießen. Fest steht, auch wenn der deutsche Re-Release von Kazé technisch weit hinter den Möglichkeiten zurück bleibt: Inhaltlich erwartet euch beste Unterhaltung.
